HYPE Token
HYPE is the native cryptocurrency of the Hyperliquid Layer 1 blockchain. Unlike many exchange tokens that are merely loyalty points, HYPE is a core network asset required for consensus, security, and protocol-level governance.
Network Security (Staking)
Hyperliquid uses a Proof-of-Stake (PoS) consensus mechanism. Validators must stake HYPE to participate in the network and earn rewards. This decentralizes the exchange's core matching engine and ensures that no single entity can control the order book.
Governance Power
HYPE holders have the power to vote on critical protocol parameters, including listing new assets, adjusting fee structures, and managing the treasury. This was famously demonstrated during the JELLY incident, where governance played a pivotal role in protecting the network.
Tokenomics and Utility
Beyond staking and governance, HYPE acts as the medium for network fees (gas) on the Hyperliquid L1. As more applications (HyperEVM) are built on top of the network, the demand for HYPE as a gas asset increases. The token also plays a role in the protocol's referral and rewards ecosystem.
Intelligence Data
HYPE was launched via a points-based distribution system to active traders on the platform. This ensured that the initial supply was concentrated among power users rather than mercenary capital or VCs.
